I have just purchased an 05 Chaparral with a Volvo Penta 3.0 with the SX Drive. I took the boat out for about 10 mins for the first time the day I picked it up from the dealership, ran excellent with no problems... The next day I took the boat out, ran excellent however the belt started to fray, so we called it a day... The boat immediately went back to the shop on the following Monday. Plugs were changed, belt was changed, oil was changed, gear lube was changed, just your standard service. Picked up the boat the following Saturday, and took it to the water. Engine ran excellent, and fired rightup and idled soo smooth. However after taking off and getting going there was a loud rattle, or vibration coming from behind the engine, and before the stern drive. Only did this noise at about 4000 rpm. Put the engine in neutral, and it still does it. Did my research online and must people have been talking about the Gimble Bearing, and the U-Joint. I also read about there being a grease fitting on the stern drive. The following day I greased the fitting and ran the boat on the hose, and there was no more noise. I took the boat to the water and ran it. At first there was no noise. I reached top speed, and all was good. But just as I let off of the throttle to head back, sure enough, the noise came back. I have taken the boat back to the shop. Does the evidence point toward the gimble bearing, or does anyone have any suggestions? Also have checked all fluids, and oil levels they are fine.
