Hello everyone,

My boat has a Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP inboard engine which has had problems all summer long. The issue is that after about 30minutes of running (no matter the RPM) the engines cuts off and either has difficulty starting back up or won't start at all. I thought it was water in the fuel tank, I checked that out and it did have a lot of water. I drained the tank, dried it out, cleaned out the fule pump and started the engine. It did run much smoother (like new) but after going out it cut out again after about 30minutes. Reading on these forums, I get the feeling that it could be my coil overheating. But I am no expert, only a weekend mechanic!

Any help or insight is very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Ayuh,.....

Welcome Aboard Francois,.....

What you've got to do is,.. run it til it Quits,....

Then figure out if it's Missing the Spark, or the Fuel.....

These Desktop Diagnosis aren't worth a Darn, without some feedback on What's Happening, or what Ain't.....

You figure out Which is Missing,+ We'll help you get it Right.....

Define "alot" of water......
Did you check to see if you had water again once it starting up again?
Again... if you found "alot" of water you may wanna start thinking about how it got in there.

Re: Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP Cutting off after 30 minutes

Ok, here are more details:

The engine is:
Volvo Penta 3.0GLM-B (I thought it was a GLP) SX-M 1.97
Serial number:4012104824

For the water, I extracted about a cup of water out of about 2 gallons that was left in the gas tank. I am fairly confident that the water source was a damaged spout of one of my gas cans. But this is something that I will monitor closely.

I have ordered a new coil, rotor, cables and plugs that I will put in this weekend.

I will conduct testing as you suggested and will keep you guys posted on Monday as to the results.

Thanks for the help.
Francois
