Volvo Penta 270 Stern Drive: What do I need?

Finally got all the problems licked on our '82 Bayliner. Took it out on the water today and it's running pretty great. It starts at the turn of a key even when cold, idles smooth, and doesn't ping anymore. There's still a whole bunch of hesitation (and the occasional stall) when giving it throttle to get up on plane, but I know what to do to solve that...

The problem that reared it's ugly head today was a nasty one. While attempting to spin off some weeds, I spun off the prop. The prop was recently replaced by a friend of my brother's, an apparently mechanically inept friend.

So, now I need a new prop and all the goodies that come with it. The boat is a 19 foot Bayliner Capri with a Volvo AQ125A which is supposed to make around 120 hp (my bet is that it's more around 90 hp).

Can anyone point me to a place where I can get all the necessary hardware for this?

You most likely have a short hub outdrive, you'll need the cone-nut, the tab that folds into to the slot on the cone to lock the cone into place, and the plastic washer, and the fish line cutter, along with the proper propeller, you can go to NAPA, you local Volvo Penta dealer, or try your luck on E-Bay, or try Doug Russell Marine, there on the net, E- Parts, there on the net, I think IBoats may have that part/parts also

Re: Volvo Penta 270 Stern Drive: What do I need?

I just found an old prop in the boat. It's in very rough shape and will need to be reconditioned by a prop shop before it's suitable for use. It's a 14 x 19.6, so I guess we'll see how the boat runs with it.

With the previous prop, which I think was a 14 x 17 or so, the boat ran about 33 mph @ 4600 RPM, so there are still another 400 RPM to go. Hopefully it gets out of the water nicely with a 19.6 pitch prop.

Try ebay I picked up one brand new by Michigan Wheel an smc270 that matched the volvo penta prop 14x19 RH 3 blade that I dinged up and had reconditioned by the local prop guy. $115 shipped which wasn't a bad price I think.
