I post this for the other newbie VP 270 owners like myself and there seems to be more every day. I had the old gal out on the river today and everything was great. A raise of the out drive for a little beach picnic and then back to the boat. Within Min.s I see the temp. gauge starting to take off shutting her down I checked everything in the engine compartment all good no leaks.long story short it turned out to be the "Pickup" for the raw water pump mounted on the out drive looks like a thermostat housing the spigot had rotted under the hose unseen and fell apart this afternoon when I raised the drive.Point is new guys Keep a sharp eye on your gauges. and even to the more experienced being a mechanic for 35+ years one thing I've learned is certain prob.s seem to follow certain designs you all may want to take a look at the area I just mentioned

even better is install an audible alarm AND keep up with the maint.
the second weak link on that 270 water intake is the seal at the lower swivel.

You may want to consider changing the title so if someone does a search it will come up in the future...
