I have a 1996 Volvo Penta 4.3L V-6 I/O.
One of the trim pistons on the outdrive has been leaking fluid. Upon inspection, I found some pitting in the piston rod.
I was going to replace the seals, but I'm sure it will continue to leak.
Does anyone know where I can buy just a piston rod? My local dealer will only sell the entire piston assembly (housing, rod, seals, etc).

In many cases, the engine makers only sell sub-assemblies as opposted to the individual parts (like your piston rod). I hate to think how much that cylinder costs...

The only way you're going to find something like that is in a boat boneyard. And even then you'll have to be lucky to find such a late-model part.

If you go to www.dougrussell.com, there is a microfice online to look up your part numbers for volvo outdrives. But however that particular item is only sold as complete. I just purchased my first volvoPenta and I found that his website was beneficial in ordering parts. I could see what I was surpose to be getting instead getting what the parts clerk wanted me to get. Good Luck

Hi well what I would do as i am a machinist my self is dissasemble the cylinder and i am sure the piston part is threaded on the rod and go to a machine shop and they will machine a new rod for you for a fraction of the cost of a new assembly, they will machine it out a chrome rod, won't cost a lot
