Hi to all.

I have just brought a 18 foot half cabin Chivers with a volvo penta AQ125A, engine with a 270 stern drive. Can anyone tell me what engine size it is. The guy that sold it to me said he thought it was a 2.3 but was not sure.

Hi again, I have now removed the engine as i went to replace the UJ bellows and found that the end of the bell housing was badly corroded so thought i better replace it. I have turned the engine over by hand by turning the fly wheel and can turn it through 360 degrees should i be able to do this or is it because it lacks compression ?

doesn't sound good. I would check the timing belt and see what you find. A broken timing belt will cause major compression loss.

Timing belt is ok but have now done a compression test and got a reading of 75psi on each cylinder what is it suppose to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated

145 to 175 is normal.
I wouldn't condem it yet, engines that haven't been run for years typically have low compression. Fire it up and run it for a few minutes then re-test the compression.
You did have a good battery and the engine cranking over at the proper speed didn't you?

Re: Volvo identification

I have a nissan patrol 4.2 diesel so took the battery off of that but have to say it did not seem to turn it over as fast as i thought it would. I have found a B230 short engine with good compression i am told around 150psi. The owner said he tested it before he removed the head. He removed the head because he said it was corroded. Will my B21 head fit on a B230 block ?
