i have a Volvo penta 250. 18' glassply

over the winter i noticed a small (couple of drops) of antifreeze in the bilge.

i couldn't find were it is coming from. somewhere above the belt midline.

after my second trip on the water there was ALOT of coolant in he bilge not to mention all over the engine.

i have it mored right now and would like to do repairs myself.

i would not like to pull it outa the water any time soon as my trailer is under heavy construction at this time.
----------------------------

i pressure tested the closed system and it seemed fine. (with a borrowed pressure tester)

i bought a new cap and ran her at idle for 5 minutes and everything seemed fine.

i hoped it was just the cap.
-----------------------------------

it was not the cap.

there is NO info on the fresh water pump in my manual.

after taking the whole cooling system apart ( 4 times now) and inspecting and using marine sealant and replacing most of the seals i have not found the problem.

it seems to be coming from inside the housing for the fresh water circulater pump. is this possible? ( i mean the 5 inch cap which the belt is on)
I thought it was coming from the connections between the tank and the line going to the oil cooler, but i think it was just spraying up there.

i took the pump apart and it looked fine, i sealed the connections were it is flush with the engine and is not leaking from there.

should i borrow the pressure tester again or am i missing something here.

thanks,,,,,, DUG

Re: VOLVO I/O antifreeze leak

Why did you start a 2nd thread about the Same Issue,..??..??.....

Anyways,........

Your circulating Water Pump needs to be Replaced,..... It's leaking thru it's Seal,.....
The 1 on the Shaft which holds the Pulley......

Re: VOLVO I/O antifreeze leak

i found a marine pump for 400$ then after looking into it they had the same pump with same part #### by volvo for a car for 50$
part #271975

so i bought the 50$ and there is a 3/4 inch hole i have to cover (no problem) just like the old 1.

but also a small pressure release hole on the side of this pump.

i took the black plastic cap of the old one and was woundering if i should put it on the new one as well?

was buying this 1 a good idea?

thanks ....dug.

Re: VOLVO I/O antifreeze leak

is it possible to just block this 3 mm hole all together?

the plastic thing that slides in there dosn't really look like it dose anything.

any help would be greatly appreciated as there is no info in my manual and i want to do it right.

thanks ,,,,,,DOUG
