Volvo Fuel pumps

Hi All

I have a 1996 Volvo 5.8 liter with fuel injection (5.8FI). Has a Cobra SX drive.
This has 2 electric fuel pumps, Low pressure and High pressure.
In the future can this be changed to use only one fuel pump.
P.S. When decoding the serial # the engine and drive was made in 1995.
