I went down to the boat yesterday to test the fuel pressure, I used the schreder valve, for the low side, how do I test the high side there are no ports, also there are 2 relays in front of. The throttle body, one if I jump it the fuel pump runs (left side relay) the other one does nothing if I jump it. Does anyone have a schematic of the engine it's a 5.7gsi pefs

Go to page 6-16 of the manual I linked you to.

Re: Volvo fuel pump

So I read the page, might be on to something here, the pot engine when I jump te relay it shuts itself off at around 10 psi the starboard (troubled one) goes to 20psi and continues to maintain 20psi until I pull the jumper out....I'm leaning toreards fuel pressure regulator??? But I do not know where it's at

Stop leaning, and start reading. There is a lot more than just that one page for troubleshooting the fuel system. It also says nothing about jumping the relays. Do the tests as described in the manual instead of making up your own, and you just may find your problem.

Re: Volvo fuel pump

I tend to tinker.....so one relay does the 2 second and then the other relay does both continually while running and they are working correctly , fuel pumps as well are supplying proper pressure, (going by the manual you sent me) it all made sense watching the gauge hold the pressure so tightly that the regulator was an issue, upon tearing into the top of the throttle body. The fuel bowl thing had a lot of black gunk in it, pulled the injectors, I don't know how to post pictures with an iPad on here but.....wow I don't even see how it was running at idle let alone running at all....the regulator had alot of stuff built up in it along with some rust.

Re: Volvo fuel pump

Just send the injectors to one of the many injector cleaning services and have them cleaned. Much cheaper than new injectors.

The last place I worked at used Untitled Document for injector repair because they were Yamaha OB dealers. But there are many other places that do the same thing. Service is usually $25-$50 per injector. A lot cheaper than new ones, even from NAPA. The gasket kit alone is $175 for the throttle body Throttle Body Repair Kits 5.0GIPEFS, 5.7GSIPEFS - 7797478 - Volvo Penta

Don't forget to flush the complete system before installing the new injectors, or you will be doing it again.

Re: Volvo fuel pump

I wish I could post pics once Again via iPad, I pulled the filter notes ago and emptied into mason jar, disgusting settled out about an inch of water/varnish and some solids in the bottom, I checked it today though and it was clean I feel the previous fuel pump more than likely failed due to starvation, and the new fuel pump ran good enough until the injectors took a dump with their filters and regulator, ill probably replace the filters on the injectors for now and then have them serviced in the spring and purchase a new regulator (40$) at auto zone

Re: Volvo fuel pump

Wow what an incredibly easy repair......I almost want to do the port engine just cause I can, I picked up the parts at advanced auto zone for 22$ after tax it came with all new gaskets o rings and filter screens. It's an easy 25 min job if you have done one already.....that engine ran so smooth it was amazing!!! And achieved a 4700 wot at a blistering 50mph. Cruised great at 3k 33mph.....If you have had a fuel pump fail you should Check your injectors and regulator they will probably have trash in them....thank you so much don!!

Re: Volvo fuel pump

So, what exactly did you repair? Was this the injector filters etc?

Re: Volvo fuel pump

The kit is called an injector service kit, I replaced the screens on the injectors , shot both of them and the fuel bowls real good with some carb cleaner. Also the kit comes with a new fuel pressure diaphragm I also installed it as well, it starts and idles great cold and is very responsive on the throttle now. I couldn't be happier with the results
