I've got a new Stingray coming with the Volvo 3.0. An article in the Feb 04 Boating Magazine said:

"You can quiet down any Volvo Penta 3.0GL by installing the Exhaust Block-off kit that's usually shipped with the engine--look for it in the glovebox. This oval shaped metal plate bolts over the exhaust relief port located at the base of the transom shield on the SX outdrive with no loss of performance for the 3.0 liter engine."

Anybody had any experience with this?

Re: Volvo Exhaust Block-off kit.

only block off kits I ever saw were for blocking off the entire transom exhaust when using a thru hull exhaust system. usually a thru hull system is louder than a thru the drive system.
never saw a kit that just blocks the idle reliefs and not real sure the 3.0 could stand the extra back pressure at idle.

Re: Volvo Exhaust Block-off kit.

I've seen a lot of 3.0L Volvo's, but never something like that.
