I was just reading wire2's question about setting timing on a Volvo EST distributor, and remembered this thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=262474
Then I got to thinking about it, found another service bulletin (28-2-1) from volvo that says to hook up the shunt with the engine running. Every manual that Volvo uses says to hook it up with the engine off.
To make matters worse, Mercruser manuals, while not using the shunt, do hook the wires up like the shunt and do it while the engine is running.
In the meantime, I have sent an email to Bill S (Volvo rep that sent me the overheat pdf I have posted) to find out the real FACTS on this confusion.
So we will see what happens.
