My new used 1989 Chaparral 290 outrive was not serviced very well from the previous owner. The shafts are supposed to be greased every year or 50 hrs and they were not. Anybody have an idea what my remedy would be, besides cutting them off ? I did try putting PB Blaster down the splines with the drive up as high as possible, but it does not soak any down the splines.....suggestions, prayers..... ?

I guess if you are willing to cut them, then you are willing to try a puller. Get a puller with some big jaws, and try that out.

have you got the outer prop off yet, there is a nut that holds both props on. Also a tip, I would clock the props when you put them back on (with one blade down, the other blade goes up) They say it is not necessary on a volvo, but I still do it anyway.

The outer prop does not budge and there is not much room for the for a puller to grip, unless you grip onto a blade. Being aluminum, it'll probably rip. Was even thinking to possibly heat the outer prop with a torch so it can expand before the stainless shaft and make it a loose as possible .... a thought.

You would start the rubber hud on fire before the heat would be afective.Have you tried a big block of wood and a big hammer?,hit the prop behind the blades as close to the base as posible.

also on heating, aluminum would disperse the heat to fast. I think you would be spinning your wheels trying to heat it. Take the nut off, and put it in the lake, leave it hooked to your trailer, and slam it in reverse...........lol. you could get yourself a ring that fits fairly snug around the hub of the prob, and hook your puller to that (have to be a hinged ring)(necesity is the mother of invention). If you do get a puller on it somehow, get it pretty snug, and rap on the tightening nut with a hammer, tighten up puller a litte more, rap a little more ect.......
