sorry, free-ing the drive from the pivot housing for removal of the drive. It just wont come away from the pivot housing--shift cable is out of the way, trim cylinders are out, and six nuts are out. I just cant seem to get it loose. I've tried some penetrating oil, heat light, and wedging various things in order to free it but no luck. Am I missing something?

Thanks Don...

Anyone have any ideas for separating stubborn drives from their pivot housings?

Thanks,

Is this a DP-S (SX Style) drive, and not the 290 style?????

yes. The whole thing is very strange. I have a bit of separation between the drive and the pivot housing at the lowest 2 studs that hold the drive on but the drive doesnt fall back on those studs after the jack is removed. There is almost no separation at the top of the drive and pivot housing. I am beginning to wonder if engine alignment is off causing the splines in the engine coupler and u-joint shaft to bind...?

My guess is there is water in the bellows and the shaft is rusted into the gimbal bearing.
In the past, I have had to remove the engine and pound on the shaft with a sledge hammer to get them off. Then replace the shaft and bearings in the drive.
