Will try to be brief. Helped friend replace the riser gaskets today on a 350 cu. duo-prop. As I am only familar with a 290 DP, this was a learning experience, big difference as DON pointed out. Set up is maby an 06. Only ID I could find are stickers that say DP DUO PROP.
Anyway, friend discovered after 2 years that it is raw water cooled not a closed system. OK, he commented on how little water came out the exhaust as he was flushing it on the lift, with the hose connection. We complete the job, hook up the hose and I raise the lift to check out the water flow when operating. Find very little exhaust/water coming out where you would expect it on a 290 DP. Above the cavitation plate. In the mean time, water and exhaust are poring out right at the transom between the boat and leg. Dont want to jump to conclusions as I have been very wrong on my assumptions on these units. Question is, do these units just dump the exhaust out the transom adaptor or could the exhaust hose be broken? Only got to 80 deg. today!!!!!!!!!!! so I did not want to get in the water, under the swim platform to look closer. This unit for ID purposes has the trim cyls. exposed, not buried like a 290. Also, turning the outdrive and trimming did change the exhaust sound.
Yea, like I said, he thought it was a closed cooling system. regards FRED
