Volvo/Cobra SX as good as Alpha 1?

I'm considering purchase of a 22' aquasport with 5.7L volvo penta that has a Cobra SX dirve. I have no experience with this drive but did have a 5.7L mercruiser with Alpha1 that performed well. Which outdrive is better?

If it's the Volvo drive,+ Not the OMC drive,........
The Year of it Will Matter,.........

Some of them are rumored to be As Good as the Alpha drives,......
And Some of the other years are rumored to be Much Better than the Alphas........

A Serious Lack of Parts Availability is the Issue with Volvo's up here where I call Home.....

I'm not sure what year but I suspect late 90's or early 00's, I do know the engine has the belt driven raw water pump and it's a volvo engine, the drive says Cobra SX on the back and side.

Way better than the Alpha...no comparison.

As far as parts availability...FedEx pretty much ships everywhere!

Chevy Corvair = Alpha I Outdrive.
Chevy Corvette = Volvo SX

As long as the drive says SX on it and you have an engine driven raw water pump, SMILE.
Look for a Volvo dealer, not an OMC dealer......
Trust me, I work at a Volvo dealer.

My 2002 SX has been bullet proof, not rock impact proof mind you, but bullet proof, Shifts much nicer, no chattering sound like the Alphas being slowly eased into gear.

The chattering is from the dog gears...you don't wanna
'granny shift' these, or yamahas, or most others, firm and quick is what you want...now the much better Volvo has a cone clutch so no 'clunk' and no shift interupt crap is needed....
