Can anyone tell me what purpose the "hollow screw" (#8 in the exploded view below) serves?

Also, what would you use the #5 plug port for?

8 ? Hollow screw 814643

From my house... it looks like #5 is your dipstick screw to check the oil level... and #5 is the vent hole for filling the drive with oil. (they fill from the bottom up)
wow... i wrote that one with sleepy eyes!!

Hi Jason: # 59 is the dipstick that would vent when filling and show the level

Make yourself a funnel like this.

Then with the drive down and level, install your funnel in the drive where (#5) is.

Put in about 2 + 3/4 quarts of GL5 synthetic gear lube start checking with the dipstick.
Leave the dipstick out while filling, and allow the drive to set for a while before doing a final level check.
On that drive, you DO NOT screw the dipstick in to check the level. As long as the level is on the flat of the dipstick, it's fine (I like to keep it in the upper half of the flat) and don't overfill.
New gaskets on 5, 59, and the hollow screw if you took it out. The screw is to allow flow of oil to the upper bearings thru a passage thru the cap.
