Hello,
I'm new to this site and am in need of some advice. I recently purchased a project boat (1973 24ft Bayliner Saratoga w/ Volvo AQ170 engine) and am in the middle of rebuilding the engine. There was a bad piston that I am replacing in the engine, but I'm running into conflicting decisions and remarks. I've read through some of the threads on here and they comment that parts for the AQ170 are interchangeable with some of the parts of the Volvo 164, just don't use things like the gaskets and what not. Will the pistons from the 164 take the high RPM that the marine version of the AQ170 is under? Where can I get pistons rated for the marine version if the 164 can't handle it? I know there's a lot out there against these engines and that's okay, but I like projects and plan on putting a lot of work and time into this project so I would appreciate help on my project and not just responses of me needing to get rid of it or find something else as a project, I like seeing old things run again. Thanks
