I have a Volvo AQ131 engine, purchased new in my Glastron in 1990. The issue is that the trim won't stay up, it trims up, but then "droops" back down. I have read that this can be caused by piston blow by in the pump. Can it also be caused by low level of oil in the pump? I haven't noticed any signs of leakage.
This pump has the reservoir built into it, with a thumb screw approximately half way down on the pump. I assume that If I check the oil it should be to the bottom of the threads, correct? What I don't know is if the outdrive should be trimmed all the way up or down- I have read both.
Also, does anyone know what type of oil to use? The service manual I found online from Volvo didn't list fluid spec's.
As a side note, I had the trim hoses replaced last year by my mechanic, could it be related to that? Air in the lines?
If it is a problem with the pump, should I just replace it, or can it be rebuilt? It looks like the current replacement model is #3586765.
I know it's a lot of questions, but I appreciate the help.
