I recently purchased an 82' bayliner with the 4cyl volvo with the single barrel solex carb. I have taken the carb completely apart and scrubbed all the parts, and I have made several adjustments since then. The engine doesn't like to start and when it does start it won't idle unless I keep it up around 1400-1500 rpm. I am looking for a cheap place to buyt a rebuild kit. I know the fuel cell was dirty, I cleaned it a best as i could and added some quickstore/quickstart cleaner. I am pretty familiar with engines and carbs but this one has got me stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

You didnt get it clean enough. The idle circuit is still plugged.

Well I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned some more and finally figured out that the moron that had it before me had the diaphram for the accelerator pump on backwards and I'm pretty sure he had the plate below the flapper on 90 degrees off. Anyway I got it running and I'm now trying to adjust it so that it will run and idle correctly.

I have that same carb issue with my 1984 Renker but mine won't idle below 1900. I have good throttle response above that RPM....Does your boat do the same. Can you tell where the idle circuit is located so I might be able to clean mine also. Thanks:D

Re: volvo AQ125A carb issues

Thanks! New to the system and did not realize the old date. I bought a manual and rebuilt the carberator. I now know what the idle circuit is! The carb had a lot of gunk/sediment especially the idle circuit ports. I should have the carburetor back on tonight and with a little luck running on idle.
I have a fuel filter going to the fuel pump but do I need one going to the carb. Thanks Capn
