I have a 1984 volvo penta aq125 a with a 270 outdrive , yesterday I was boating out on a local lake the motor was running fine until I slowed down and put it in neutral then all of a sudden the rpms dropped significantly then stalled , I kept trying to start it up but it would turn over and only stay running for about 5 seconds , The engine was running at normal temp (180-190) , I took off the cap on top of the strainer and water started pouring out of the top (like it was clogged) but it usually drains when I remove the cap , I screwed it back on, tried the engine again it stalled then i removed the cap and it drained , I looked at the impeller and It was in good shape. Do you think the water cooling intake system would cause the engine not to run at all? like I said it was running perfect and i put it in neutral and It dropped rpms then stalled , its been doing the same ever since . What do I do or what do you think the problem is?

Thanks

Sounds like that's your problem.A good water/fuel seperating filter might help.
