got a 2000 glastron 249gs with a 5.7l gs volvo #4012043233 wit the sx-m drive #4202025929, does this need a dist shunt or is the rev out problem in the milky oiled outdrive. going to rebuild the drive but want to make sure iv got the timing right. theres only one mark on the balancer, and only one mark on the timing tab. its a vortec. only revs to 3900 under load. brand new long block and runs greats ecept it just wont rev out. hits 5000 in neutral easily. i think its the outdrive. its the engine with the plastic timing cover.

Re: volvo 5.7l timing

Your engine should have the Prestolite BID ignition and does not require a shunt.
