Hello does anyone know the PROPER timing procedure for a 5.7 gsi throttlebody. Wanting to get the project done this weekend and cant call Volvo I seem to be missing this manual :(

I'm not much of a volvo man but just installed new Longblock and realized that I don't have the timing procedure. I know all the thunderbolt Mercruiser timing procedures but have not timed this motor.

Thanks guys!!!

etech2008,

Let me know if the above works for you.
I've timed more engines in my life than I can remember yet when I perform the above on my 2003 5.7 GXi I can rotate the distributor left or right as far as allowed and no change in base timing.
Mine acts like the jumper technique is not working.

Cheers

That's because you don't time a 2003 GXi like that. His is a TBI yours is an MPI, with a completely differenct distributors, ECM's and timing requirements.

Glad I was able to help.
That information was provided to me 5 years ago by another iboats member, when I had my Mercruiser 5.7LX EFI Gen + apart. It made timing very easy, once I knew the proper procedure. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for that tidbit Don,

However, my manual states the same procedure for my year/engine...... Obviously there must be be a different procedure,, but it's still a distributor with mechanical and computer controlled advance with 8-10 degrees BTDC base timing requirements.
