I have a 2005 Rinker 192 that I purchased used a month or so ago. All maintenance records were provided by the previous owner (only maintained by dealer). It is outfitted with a 4.3L Volvo (carb) SX. It had 60 hours on it when I got it and it now has about 80.

The engine starts and runs very well. Very quiet and smooth; however, after a session of tubing with the kids, I am feeling a vibration under my feet when in neutral and at idle speed. Drive position doesn't matter (up, down, left right). It goes away in gear (forward or reverse) at all speeds. It is not there when I run it in the driveway on the trailer hooked up to the garden hose. It is not getting any worse.....it's been there all along.

Any ideas?

Re: Volvo 4.3L SX Vibration

Sounds like the clutch cone is rattling. I also have a SX drive and every now and then it has a rattle sound in neutral, go ways immedatly when it slips into gear. I posted it right after I bought boat and found the SX and Mercruiser Bravos sometime make slight noise in neutral. It has been the same for the past 600hrs. All that being said, a vibration is different and perhaps the cone needs adjusted. Is there any metal in the drive fluid? Also might want to pull drive and check gimbel and alignment.

Re: Volvo 4.3L SX Vibration

Thanks for the info. I'll be winterizing in the next few months so I'll be pulling the drive and checking all of the driveline components including alignment. I'll post what I find. Any idea where I can get an alignment tool for the SX drive?

I bought mine on eBay, but there are lots of places that sell them.

Re: Volvo 4.3L SX Vibration

Thanks for the tip. Ebay will work out best for me. I get one ordered up!

Back to the original point of the post, I was on a friends early ;90's 18' Chris Craft bowrider with a 3.0L OMC Cobra. I could detect that it too had the exact same vibration when in neutral at idle and after towing a tube for a while.
