Volvo 4.3/SX Water in Clyinders

I have a 2001 Four Winns 180 with Volvo 4.3/SX drive. After my impeller went out in late June I have been having water get in the cylinder heads. I have replaced the gaskets, had both heads checked for cracks (there were fine), re-milled both heads in case they warped and pressure checked the engine. Nothing was found wrong but after putting the engine back together, I continue to get water in the cylinder heads. Three mechanics have told me the Volvo 4.3 allows water to enter through the exhaust & there isn't anyway to stop it. This sounds odd that water can't be kept out, but they all have told me the same thing. Any tips of advice how to solve this problem? Does anyone have a direct contact number to Volvo? Thanks

Welcome ton iboats :) While I am not a volvo guy, that answer seems lame.....Bad manifolds/risers is the most likely cause......Valve overlap is possible on the wrong cam....Don S. will be able to shed alot more light on the subject....JK

Due to the valve overlap, the V6 engines were very bad about sucking water back in.
Usually it's most noticable after long operation at low rpm (Idle). It's recommended if after idling for a long time to run the engine up above 1200 rpm to clear it out, then bring back to idle and shut off.
THe problem is even worse if there are leaky exhaust valves. A compression test and possibly a leakdown test can verify that. Even a miss due to old plugs, cap, or rotor will cause more water to get in.
