What is the normal operating temp for these motors?

Afte a recent water pump implellor "event" I'm concerned that the temp is too high. It runs around 180 F.

Does this sound right?

Also, the crap Cylmer manual states that the thermostat opens at 160 F. Is that right

Re: Volvo 4.3 SX Operating Temp

If raw water cooled, many late model Volvos come with 160 stats like my old OMC. Mine with the 160 stat runs right at 160. I noticed when the stats get old and start to stick, they may cause the motor to run too cool unless under load, and then let it heat up too much coming off plane. So I change them every 1-2 seasons.

For what it's worth, my 2004 RWC 5.0L Mercruiser runs a constant 180 degrees.

I've got a '97 Volvo-Penta 4.3 GL. The stock thermostat for this model is 160 degrees. Mine runs right at 160, or maybe 165.
