Volvo 4.3 Strange dipstick readings

Hey everyone! I got a used boat with a 1998 Volvo Penta 4.3GL. Checked the oil and it was a good 1.5” above the Max line when cold. Went to do an oil change and only sucked out about 2.5L of oil through the dipstick including oil I dumped out of the filter. Now I’m confused. There seems to be too little oil in it while I was expecting there to be too much oil as per the dip stick reading.

Do I have the wrong dipstick tube for my motor? Wrong dipstick? The tube seems to be on a 30 degree angle where the stick takes its readings. Shouldn’t it be more 90 degree pointing more up? Photos attached for better understanding

Tube is correct, stick may be wrong. Oil level is about 3.5" below the top of the oil pan rail (bottom of block)

I solved it! It’s all the right parts but is routed incorrectly. Someone has routed the tube beneath the engine mount instead of above it like it’s suppose to be. Hope someone else can benefit from this experience. I’ll attach some pictures of how it’s suppose to be ran to compare.

Thanks!

Ok thanks. Regardless, what’s the best way to re-mark the dipstick at the right oil level?
Measure the tube to the point 3.5" below the pan rail

Measure the dipstick an put a mark that distance from the handle end
