Volvo 4.3 Power?

Need some suggestions. I just put another 4.3 V6 motor (two barrel carb) in my 1999 model 19.5 ft open bow ski boat. I have a volvo SX outdrive. I took it out for a test run today with a few people (combined weight aprox 500lbs). The boat seemed a little luggish getting on plane and the rpm gauge was reading about 3000-3200 rpms at full throttle. I thought at full throttle it should be running around 4k rpms. My speedo isn't working so not sure how fast we were going at 3K rpms. The prop probably could use a little reworking.

It is a used motor but everything checked out before I put it in. Compression was good and oil pressure is good. Carburetor bogged a little when I gave it quick throttle but otherwise seems to run good - not missing.

checked out the section and I will look at few things that are on the list tomorrow. The engine will get up to and pass 4K rpms with muffs (just ran it there briefly) but I noticed the problem under load once I ran it in the water.

Just a guess but its probably dirty carbs or an obstruction in your fuel lines(worn lines and methanol can cause nasty stuff).. I would pull and clean them anyway just to be sure.. Check for obstructions on the lines coming from the tank to the pump including inside the tank if possible..Replace the lines if they are old or you dont know the condition of them.. I usually start at the carbs and working to make sure I have clean fuel flow then move to ignition because that is usually more complicated..

That is a non test.

A V6 will go to 10,000 rpms and blow up if only running on 3 cylinders when on muffs and no load.
Under load is the only thing that means anything.

Carb was sent off and rebuilt but I am not that experienced in making final adjustments. Could be the problem and I will see if I can get someone who has that experience to take a look.
