Volvo 4.3 GL more HP

Looking for any info on how to get more HP out of my Volvo 4.3L Gl 190 Hp

Carb mod
Intake
Exhaust
Ignition

Any tricks of the trade to get another 10 hp out of this engine.

I don't think you'd really tell a difference with a 10hp gain, but being the 4.3 you could go vortec heads and intake.... should be around 220 or 225HP

If you want a NOTICABLE gain, you need a bigger engine............... It's just that simple. It's a boat, not a car.

If you've got a 2bbl manifold, a marine 4bbl, & manifold will give you probably 15hp, the early 4.3's like I had on my 86' Celebrity, were rated 190hp 2bbl, 205hp 4bbl, and as far as I know, they didn't have Vortec heads yet. So, I'd guess you could pull even more horsepower with these new style heads.

You are asking for more HP, but is that what you want?
Torque is what gets you up on plane in a hurry. Torque depends mostly on engine size (cu in).
Horse Power is what keeps you there and gives you your top speed.
Approximatly 10 HP is requiried to gain 1 mph of top speed.
What gives you top speed, doesn't get you on plane.

But,....
If that Volvo is a 2bbl. carb, pre-vortec head motor,......

A 4bbl. Carb, Manifold,+ a set of Vortec heads Will make a "NOTICABLE gain"..........

Ok thanks for the replies about the extra HP.

I think I will just leave it alone because the boat runs great as it is I was just wanting to see what other people might have done to there engines to get and extra boast out of them.
It's a 1997 Fourwinns RX with the Volvo Penta 4.3 GL 190 hp and Cobra SX outdrive with a 14X21 Stainless Stell prop.
With just me and a half tank of fuel it maxs out 48-49 mph.Now when you put 4 to 5 more people it will run aroun 41mph WOT.

Will keep researching just in case.
By the way will a V8 fit in this boat without much fabricating

You can put Any motor in Any boat,.......... It's ALL about Fabricating.........

Measure infront of your existing engine. The SBC's are 4" longer x same height x same width.

They are also 100lbs heavier, but you could offset this with aluminum intake and exhaust manifolds if you boat in fresh water.
