I own a 2002 Larson sei 190 I/O. Ran great until this season with 150-175 hours on engine. Completely winterized each year with oil change/lower unit oil and fuel filters. Starts great and runs great for hours until stopping or going through a no wake zone. After stopping and trying to get back on plane, engine runs great until just about to come on plane, engine shuts down like it ran out of gas. Will not start again on its own, used starting fluid in carburator to get started. After starting the engine runs flawless until you stop again. Has a low voltage electric fuel pump. Every time I take it out, I know it will break down on me, pleae help. :(

Re: Volvo 4.3 fuel delivery problem

First of all, stop using the starting fluid, before you have to buy a new engine. You might carefully squirt a little gas in there to get it started, but for heavens sake stop using starting fluid.

There is a diode in your wiring harness that is probably open. This would keep power from getting to the fuel pump when cranking the engine.

Thanks Don. I know the starting fluid is not good for the engine with continuid use. What do i do with the diode? Don't you think the fuel pump is weak and does not feed enough fuel into the carb when the demand is at the highest level? I can drop the boat into the water and run it for hours with flawless results until i stop and restart, that's when my troubles start.

Hello Marinemech1,
I have heard the antisiphon valve more than once. This does make some sense, could be clogged or stuck. Why does the engine hun great off the trailer and puke out when I am almost on plane? I will check the valve or replace it before I replace the fuel pump. Thanks
If you think of anything else I sure would appreciate it.

Help Please... I have a 2002 Volvo 4.3 GL. The 7.5 fuse keeps blowing on the motor. I first thought it was the fuel pump so I replaced it and I think it smoked now. A puff of white smoke came out of it today.

Start a new thread, don't just hijack a 4 year old thread with your question stuck at the end. Few if any will see it.
