I Just purchased a 1972 Bayliner with a 307 inboard and Volvo 280 Outdrive. It runs fine for about 20 mins at 160 degrees. Then the temp spikes to about 200-220 degrees and I have to shut it down. When this happens, I can keep my hand on the starboard manifold riser but the port riser is cooking?? I have had both risers removed and cleaned. The water flows good through both risers. I disconnected the water supply to the port riser and cranked it over and there was water up to that point (pulsating??). Am I correct that because the heat seems to be on only one side that the problem would be in the manifold/riser assy?? <br />Any help/advice would be appreciated

You've [cleaned?] the risers, but what about the exhaust manifolds.Where are you overheating? At idle or slow speeds then you should look at the condition of your seawater pump and should do so anyway if it has'nt been looked at in awhile.Overheat at high speed indicates a restriction of flow ussually at the tstat or the manis.Because you describe one elbow getting substansially hotter than the other,I would suspect faulty exhaust manifolds.

Did you ever solve your heating problem?

I have a 72 bayliner that does the same thing.
