Any tips in removing sheared off flush flywheel studs?
Removed one using extractor however others seem frozen.
I have thought of applying heat however how will that affect the crank?
Obviously I will have to remove rear seal before heating, but any other tips?...
Thanks.

They probably have Loctite 271 on them. 350? will loosen them, but not damage the seal, along with a LH drill bit and they should walk out easily.
The real question is WHY are they sheared off ????????? What happened?

I believe due to poor repair work done by shop who performed repairs.

I had an issue with a loud rattling at about 3k rpms, and the shop diagnosed it as a loose flywheel dust cover on the bottom of the engine...

They had the bright idea to pull the engine to fix/remove the dust cover to eliminate the noise, which seemed to work... I did not know that they removed it until this mess happened. I was originally told that they installed all new bolts and tightened them to solve the problem... That was not the case.

Took the boat out for the first time since the repair, and it was great... smooth and quite... two hours later the same noise came back, and not 10 secs later the engine cut loose...

Still running but boat would not go.
Also starter would not turn engine over.

found all six studs under the engine in the hull... fell out since they removed the cover. Luckily that is all that was broken... Flywheel is still fine, paint scratched but thats it. Coupler is fine also... Just need to replace studs and reassemble properly... to the proper torque specifications

Got a Volvo engine SN for your engine? Don't put it back together just yet, let me do some checking.

3.0 Liter Drive Coupler Fasteners: Campaign 4877-1721 (SB# 21-6-43)

Volvo Penta has discovered that the drive couplers on some 3.0L engines may have been installed with an insufficient fastener torque. All drive coupler hardware on 3.0L engines (within the serial number range (4012230287 ? 4012233123) should be inspected to avoid potentially loose hardware

Hi, I think this is why Don S. told you to wait. You posted the serial number for a SX drive and this recall uses the engine serial number. From what I can see on the Volvo Penta website your engine serial number falls after this recall. I recommend that you talk with your dealer.
Good Luck Muc

Anyone know the recommended torque specs for the flywheel studs, bearing cap bolts, and oilpan bolts?
