Re: Volvo 3.0 Stingray 185SX Timing Issues
You need a timing light and a shunt to properly set the timing. It's like this: You start & warm up the engine, hook up the timing light. Then you put connect the shunt to the distributor and a B+ source (that should lock the timing advance). Measure the base ignition with the timing light & set it between 0deg TDC and 2deg ATDC. Disconnect shunt & check if it properly advances and you're done! CAREFUL: WHEN YOU CONNECT THE SHUNT, THE ENGINE WILL LOOSE RPM OR EVENTUALLY STALL. DON'T CRANK THE ENGINE WITH THE SHUNT ON OR YOU CAN DAMAGE THE ELECTRONIC MODULE IN YOUR DISTRIBUTOR!
