Volvo 3.0 running temperature?

Hi everyone!

I'm having some thoughts about my Volvo 3.0. The longblock engine is a GM replacement, year 2004; all the other parts are from a '94 VP 3.0GS. Now, i changed the impeller & everything else, but since last year (after a thermostat change), my boat is running at 180 degrees. Not going up or down, but steady at 180 deg. The thermostat was bought at DRM, for a '94 VP. Did i get the wrong thermostat or is something else wrong?

Thanx

Oh, and i forgot:

I changed the temp sensor when i changed the thermostat also... So perhaps the sensor is not accurate? Any 1 got the proper readings for it (ohms / temperature)? Any other way to test it? Will i need an IR gun?

My 2007 3.0 stays rock solid at 180. According to my owners manual 175-182 is normal operating temp.

Put your old temp sender back in and see what it runs.

Re: Volvo 3.0 running temperature?

Hi all!

Don, kinda can't do that, cause the old sending unit is toast; that was the cause for the change. At first, the signal from the sending unit was intermittent, then it stopped completely (checked with an ohmmeter & also tried the ground test so it was the sending unit). Is 180 OK for a 3.0? The old one was more in the 160 area than 180. Did the operating temp change or?

Re: Volvo 3.0 running temperature?

I realize this may be a bit of a dead thread but I just got the OEM manuals from volvo for my 3.oL and it said that the thermostat starts opening at 160 and will be fully open by 182.

I assume that the maximum acceptable temperature with this thermostat would be at least 182 if not a few degrees higher?
