greetings, my volvo 3.0 needs to crank for awhile before it starts for the first time of the day, but after it starts and idles for a minute or two shes fine the rest of the day driving, restarting, etc, although does seem like she doesn't have the pep shes always had, compression is good though via copmression test. I have all new spark plugs gapped properly, new spark plug wires, new cap, rotor, frequent fuel refills so its not just a "bad" tank of gas. The engine has ~50 hours on it since it was new in 96. It sat most of its life, properly stored/winterized its entire life, including fogging, fuel stabil, draining block etc etc....so i figure the carb is "gummed" up or the jets clogged or something, im not a CARB guy, but am engine savy (built small block fords)...

1) can i just unbolt this carb, and take it and the "carb kit" i bought direct from volvo to any hot rod shop and have them go through it? or is there someone online that specializes in rebuilding marine carbs???

2) does it need to be "dialed in" as far as air fuel ratio, and if so, how is it done, especially on a boat?? on my blow stang i adjust via computer and a wide band guage in the exhaust so this carb with water cooled exhaust thing is interesting to say the least....

Ayuh,...

1),... Sure why not,... It's just another Carb to those guys,...
Kiting are carb is more about the resourses you have to work with, rather than the differences in the carbs....

2),... It should still be Dialed In when it's Kitted, as in the needles,+jets will be the same,...
About the only Adjustment available after remounting it is the Idle Air Screw,.... Which may or may not need alittle turning.....

Btw,..... If you're a Motor Guy, with access to a vat of Carb Cleaner,+ Compressed Air,......
You can do this yourself with the measely direction that come with Most kits.....

1 More thing,....... Change the Fuel Filters 1st,.... Ya may not even Need a Kit......

according to my seloc and general understanding of engines, it seems i do not have a seperate fuel filter/water seperator, seems whatever i have as far as filter is located inside the fuel pump according to my manual and seloc manual. does this sound correct, that i have ONE filter between the tank and engine?

This link on volvo shows my fuel pump, so there is just that filter there in the pump it appears to be the only filter i have for fuel

engine 3.0 GS, PNCA

Ayuh,...... Just Guessing, 'cause I don't get to play with Volvos very often.......

But,......
I Think you'll find the 1 filter inside the fuelpump,+ another 1 inside the Carb's Inlet fitting.........

It seems Nobody does the canister type from the manufacturers on the 3.0ls...
Alot of guys add a canister type before the fuelpump to make life just alittle Easier........;)

Nope,....... 'cause they're Rarer than Sharks here on Lake Ontario,+ the St. Lawrence river.......

im gonna look into the fuel filters and see what i get when spring rolls around.

Watch ebay,..... They only run about a bucktwo.98...........
It doesn't matter if it's Volvo, or Merc, or Whatever,...... They're all pretty common.....
