Do they make a bell housing and motor mounts to convert a Ford 460 to a Chevy 502 with a Volvo 280 out drive? This set up is in a 20' sleek craft I'm rebuilding.

Thanks

I've never heard of either of those motors mated to a 280 outdrive.

Welcome to iboats, btw.:)

All you have to do Rick is to look at a picture of a 460 Ford engine, then a picture of a 280 outdrive. Not like you are going to see both in the same picture.

bsheck, Volvo does make a flywheel cover for that size engine, but you will have problems with the gear ratio with that single prop drive and a 502.

I had a feeling that there's no one (at Volvo) that would intentionally bolt a 460 in front of ANY Volvo.........well, except for the newer SX/DPS conversion etc......

Now that you can actually BUY manifolds and couplers from retail sellers again I am thinking about converting my Fourwinns back to an OMC 460:eek::eek:............

well, maybe not.......

Re: volvo 280 with a 460ford to a BBC conversion

This was a very fun and fast boat when we had it on the water years ago. I assume the out drive is a Volvo because the only markings on it is "280" on the back of it. The 460(with nitrous) pushed it great, but I wanted to put a fuel injected crate engine in it to improve it's reliability.
Ford does not make turn key fuel injected crate engine. Thats why I was looking to convert to a big chevy.
Thanks for your help.

Nitrous!!:eek::eek:

I read about a someone on Offshoreonly.com that put a seriously tricked bored/stroked 460 with a King Cobra in a 211 Liberator like mine.

His description was that it would "Bury the speedo at 80mph"! Nitrous would change the rules!!!!

Ok.....I don't think we were any help here at all!

Could you post a couple of pictures of what you have? Do a (in focus please) side and rear view of the drive and a above-view of the engine.

If that's a 460 it is most likely an OMC Cobra.....(did you buy the boat new?....I suppose you didn't....)

It's also possible that someone back in the 90's or so, did a little (or a LOT of) modification and bolted some sort of Volvo Penta on the back (or just pasted some Volvo stickers on it!!) one never knows what people will do!!!;)

When I bought my boat from my brother (and didn't know anything about OMC) he told me that the OMC King Cobra (and all Cobras) were "the same as" Volvo. I'll bet there's more than a few people that have put Volvo stickers all over their Cobras right before selling them!!!!!

Pictures will tell all!!

I would LOVE to see what you have there!!

Cheers,

Pretty cool...I suppose if a 427 would bolt to a "280" so would a 460 if someone wanted it to happen......
I just happen to have Borg Warner to Volvo adapter fitted to my 302, time to start looking for a 460 with Borg Warner Flywheel Cover :D
