Well, I got a 86' 25ft Bayliner equipped with the beautiful Volvo Penta 280 outdrive. It seems the electric tilt mechanism cannot engage the reverse lock thrust rod. It appears to be a damaged thrust sleeve which screws atop the rod itself. Where would I find this part???

I love the way the drive itself shifts, BUT, this electric tilt crap is REALLY the sore spot of this whole design. It's like having a nice 2009 BMW 740i with hand powered roll up windows and manual lock.

I wish there was an easy way to convert to a Volvo Hydraulic Trim system without having to re-glass the transom.....I'm beginning to miss my piece of sh*t Alpha-One.

Re: Volvo 280 Outdrive parts....where????

I've got the same issues with my 275 outdrive.

I found that sleeve at a local dealer that specializes in the older volvo stuff. He had one on the shelf. 20 bucks or so.

Finding the part was the easy part, replacing it is another story. Lets just say the part still sits in my tool box.

It seems to me, the outdrive needs to practically be disassembled to replace that part and the arm that the sleeve slides through is often damaged as well. Sorry for the negative info.

Maybe some other volvo guys can shine some hope on the issue.

Good Luck!!
