I searched the threads and can't seem to locate an answer to my dilemma, so... here goes.
I'm trying to remove the drive from the boat so I can rebuild it. My immediate problem is the locking screw for the shaft journal & suspension yoke broke. I have a picture with the screw still in the hole (to keep rain, dirt, etc. out).
The bolt broke at the point where the threads meet (or used to meet) the shaft of the bolt. The threaded part of the bolt is frozen in place, and I've been keeping the bolt hole filled with WD-40.
My question is, am I going to have to drill the broken part of the bolt out, or can anyone think of a less (possibly) destructive alternative?
Unfortunately, the guy we bought the boat from painted the entire outdrive with a nice HEAVY coat (or several coats) of white paint. I've got some paint remover gel on the shaft journals, but I think they might be frozen in place too.
If anyone has any experience with something like this, I'd really appreciate your advice.
Thanks,
Shannon
Also... If anyone can precisely identify my outdrive from the picture, I'd appreciate that too! I believe it's a 280 or a 285 type.
