volvo 280 1984 int bearing noise

I would like to get some info on how to remove and replace the intermediate bearings on my 1984 volvo 5.7/280 The uni joints are new but I hear a growl from the fly wheel cover and it makes me edgy to go any distance in the boat
Should I remove the complete leg or just the upper and then pull the engine forward to remove the housing and then what Do the go a long time with noise in the housing or should I get on it before summer is over I did pump lots of grease in and no change

Just remove the upper gear box, remove the 6 bolts holding the clamp ring on the flywheel housing, then pull the engine.
I wouldn't let them get too bad. IF they lock up, you will be replacing the housing, you don't even want to know the price of one of those.

When I get the engine out should I bring it out of the boat or just move it forward and remove the bell housing and will I be able to remove and replace the bearing witout special tools

Only you can answer that question, it all depends on the access room you have.

No really special tools. A press to R&R the bearings and the right size snap ring pliers makes the job easier.

Engine came out but I found the flex plate springs very loose and I cant get the bearings out of the housing The bearings plus gaskets and snap rings cost me $112.00 cdn They want $420.00 for the flex plate so if you know were to get one cheaper let me know
