volvo 270-u-joint stuck.......patience.....fading.

can someone please tell me what i'm missing. I have taken out the upper gear box, turned it to its side, fliped it, beat it, snatched it, and I can not get the u-joints to break loose from the motor. WHAT AM I MISSING??? I am removing the motor and I have to take off u-joint and bellows to get to the mounting plate.

I have this exact boat. Rot isn't nearly as bad. Keep me posted on your progress. I'll be doing some of the same work.

I forgot to mention that this is a volvo penta AQ125A. The one with no motor mounts.

The problem is caused by rust from water in the bellows and total lack of maintenence.<br />In the past I have pulled them off with a chain (NEVER use a rope) hooked to the forklift. When that doesn't work, the Oxy/Act cutting tourch comes in handy.

the shaft is seized and don mentioned the only solutions. the shaft and crosses are still available.

yep<br /> aint saltwater great, 50 cents worth of grease every other year can get expensive .

I found a can of stuff at the boat store that's suppose to unseize anything. It was $20. Does anyone know if this stuff works? In the meantime, Iwill say a little prayer.............."Lord, if you can unstick my u-joints just this one time, I promise I will grease my spline joints every other season, Amen.

Send me the $20.<br />I'll spend it on beer.<br />My buddies and I drinking the $20 worth of beer will have the same effect on "unsiezeing" your drive as the can of snake oil....maybe work UP TO 47.6% better.

Try spraying it with AeroKroil. This stuff really works. <br /><br />I sprayed it on 30 year old black pipe that was a drain line in the ground. All rusty with white calcium build up everywhere. Knocked off the calcium as best I could, sprayed it, let it sit over night, sprayed it again, and unscrewed it with two pipe wrenches.<br /><br />Story number two. Removed exhaust manifolds from a 1992 Mercury Sable to rebuild the heads. Sprayed the manifold studs, let it sit overnight, sprayed them again, loosened with a 1/4" rachet and removed the nuts from the studs with my fingers.<br /><br /> http://www.kanolabs.com/
