volvo 270 lift problem

I have a Volvo Penta sterndrive that will not lift .The electric motor and screw gear are working, I can lift it manually if I release the locking tab but it dosnt stay up. Any ideas?

When you try to raise the drive, does the lockdown release? If it is staying locked, you may have to adjust the thrust sleeve that contacts the tilt mechanism (B) in the drawing below.
Could also be the mechanism is slipping and will not have the power to lift it.
