My fishing buddy has a 270 outdrive on his boat.
He has acquired a 280 and has been asking me what the difference is between the two. I told him to look on the back of my boat and that would give him the same answer as I could. (My boat has twin 200 evinrudes)

My question to the experts on this forum is basically, what is the difference between these two outdrives?

The only difference I know is the 280 has tilt and trim, but I am sure there are others

Most 280’s do, some don't (trim). Just a model upgrade as far as I know. When they changed the casing (adding trim mounts) they gave it a new model number. Be careful Volvo’s have a bunch of gear ratios. Make sure they match.

I appreciate the response. I found a site that had a breakdown of both units/with part numbers and for the most part the numbers are the same.

270's exhaust through the fin. 280's exhaust out of the end of the anticavitation plate.
Both models had option of electric tilt only or hyd trim / tilt

Regards

Peter

Majority of parts are interchangable. Hydraulic trim was available for the 270 & 280 but very rare to find now.

As Peter said, exhaust on the 280 exits through the anti-vent plate. The anti-vent plate on the 280 also has oil ports built in for outdrive oil cooling.

Aldo
