My friend just got an 89 Barretta with the above motor and outdrive (small block chevy). He has it in his garage but now has decided to put it outside. He has ordered the manual for it but it hasent come yet. I am going over tomorrow to help him drain all the water out and want to make sure we get all of the drains. I see a small plug right above the oil pan about center of the block on either side and assume that is the water drain for the block. Also see big plugs on the back of the risers. Are these the only drains? Thank you for your help.

Re: Volvo 231 water drains

Thank you Don. I did download the service manual earlier but it does not show the drains. Got the owners manual from the link you posted and all it says to do is remove the raw water pump inlet hose and run antifreeze through that. Nothing about draining. Hopefully someone here has a similar set up and can help with the drain locations.

Re: Volvo 231 water drains

You got it.

If the engine is raw water cooled with no heatexchanger.

Two block drains. rod out the hole to clear debris.
Two manifold drains. you can rod these out as well
Raw water pump cover
pull off any of the large hoses that may hold water.
Hose on powersteering cooler, raw water pump, circ. pump, etc.

I would go to the adults only aticky and follow the winterizing instructions.

Let us know if you need any help.:)
