Volvo 230

I am new to boats, but I now have a 1994 Wellcraft Excel with a Volvo 230. Can you tell me what HP this motor is and any good or I may need to know about this motor. I am just trying to learn some about what I have thanks.

Actually, the designaiton has nothing to do with the horsepower rating. The engine is only rated at 120HP

So the 230 has the same output as a 125B? Hmmm....what were they smoking at Volvo in the 60s?

Ok so 120 Hp. I found out they made a 230A and 230B can you tell me the diff and how I can tell the diff. I did not get any info with this boat.

I have a 230A and there is a little identificatiion plate right on top of the engine that says so.

I have only been learning about my engine lately so can't help with much but we can be friends and learn together.

There should also be a metal tag on the port side of the engine. Look around the distributor area. It will have rather it's an A or B, if not post the serial number.

The ID plate is damaged to where I can not read it on mine. I am going to get a book from a freind today so it may help me ID the model and also learn a littel bat about it.
