VOLTAGE REGULATOR TEST

I've spent considerable time googling "test" for a Mercury 893640T01 voltage regulator and have found none. This one is square and has six wires. The one I found is diamond shaped and has studs rather then pig tails. The regulator is on the bench and my multi-meter has a diode test feature. There are several sources for purchase but none for test. Suggestions, please.....mike (ps--the motor is a 2005 60 hp four stroke..S/N 1B063517)

It's probably not a bad idea to pick up a service manual - it'll be in there.
At the very least, you'll be able to check the continuity of the stator windings.
