volo 3.0 SX knocking noise in outdrive

I have seen a few similar posts but none the exact same so I figured Id ask. I have a 2003 Volvo 3.0 SX drive. When the engine is running in neutral or in gear I can hear a knocking noise inside the out drive. It gets worse when I turn the wheel hard to either side. I have checked the bellow and there is no water in there (I was able to unscrew it and pull it back enough to peek inside w/o removing the drive), but about 2 years ago I had the bellows and gimbal replaced b/c it was leaking. I have also greased the gimbal bearing from the fitting on the outside. I?m am thinking it could be the u-joints but want some other opinions before removing the out drive.

The water you had in the bellows 2 years ago finally caught up to the ujoints. But you have to pull the drive clear off to check them. You should also be pulling that outdrive yearly for no other reason than to check the alignment and grease the coupler splines. If you don't you will be pulling the engine and replacing the coupler.
