My 55 in Vizio is only a couple of years old and the screen has started to stop coming on "sometimes". It will turn on and flash the V symbol then nothing, sound will come on, but no picture. After turning off and on multiple times the V symbol will stay on and it works. I know it will "NOT" soon. Anyone had similar issues? Know of a fix? This one cost $500 and I don't want to replace it but the wife won't tolerate this much longer
Thanks in advance for any help..

Have you tried different sources to make sure its actually the TV's issue? This also means trying a different cable assuming you are using HDMI. What happens when you hit the TV's menu button. Does the menu come on?

No I haven't tried a different cable. but it is an intermittent problem so I feel it is a circuit board issue. but just don't know where to look.

Google "Vizio Black Death" My issue was that it didnt turn on at all. I bought a 20.00 power supply and it fixed the problem.

Actually it is a pretty common problem with some of the Vizio models, you can buy parts for them from quite a few places. Google your model number and black screen then start reading.

Hava a similar problem with an RCA every couple of years. I unplug it for 5 minutes and then plug it back in again.

I heard it was a common problem. But "Black Death". It turns on and flashes the V symbol, so I feel it is not a power issue. I will Google the ser. I did unplug it. No change. It is working now. I just won't turn it off. ;)
Thanks

If you get the V and then it goes black, it is probably a bad screen board, in laptops they are called inverter boards, and your computer screen will come up with a logo, then start to fade and finally end up black, I don't remember what it is called in the TV market, but it is a driver board that will store a little bit of energy until it gets warm then goes off. Last time I look for my model it was about $30 bucks and it is about 20 minutes to change it out.

What model TV do you have and I can look at my parts list to see if I can locate the part number for you.

I was thinking inverter board too. If it is an LED backlit TV or plasma it won't have one though. The inverter takes the voltage and ups it to over 1,000 volts that drives the florescent tube.
