vintage parts supply ...coming to an end?

was shooting the breeze with my local dealer while picking up a few parts for my 1958 7.5, i mentioned how nice it was to be able to get gaskets etc so easily. he said it was soon coming to and end as brp was not making the stuff, and what was in the warehouses was it!?
ive dealt with this guy for more than 20 years , and hes a straight shooter, but is he misinformed....or did i misunderstand??

I would tend to believe him. OMC went above and beyond when it came to supplying parts that is why a lot of old OMCs are still running today. BRP doesn't have to continue making parts by law it doesn't have to support anything older than 10 years I believe.

I do believe Mercury also did the 10 yr thing some yrs ago. But what do you expect from big corperations ? All they want to do is sell new. It SUCKS !!! Look at all the parts that are NLA on the BRP web site.

that does SUCK! hopefully sierra will seize an opportunity and fill in the void for the parts they dont already supply! ( anyone interested in a couple of old motors.....parts no longer available!! )

wish i had the know how to start an online petition! dont the kids in upper management at BRP realize the free advertising they get from a 50+ year old motor still running as new???

The sad thing is they don't care. I have been buying extra parts for my 4 horse. I need to order a couple of seals for the lower unit and then I should have all of the parts required to tear it down and rebuild it. I figured sooner of later they would pull a Mercury. Ever winder why you don't see any old Mercs? Its because you can't buy parts for the darn things.
