vibration

i have a 1982 merc 80hp .today when leaving dock i heard a pop not loud and i didnt hit nothing after that no problam ran fine but once i slowed down i could here and feel vibration.every time i start to take off same thing.but once out the hole and planed out it quits.after further investigation notice that prop would move in and out about a 1/4 to a 1/2 in .looked at buddys boat his dont move at all.could this be my problam or is it worst.thanks for your time nol.

Hey Bigben....<br /><br />Is the prop moving on the prop shaft or is the prop and shaft moving? If it's just the prop, tighten it back down and be sure the prop nut keeper is in place.<br /><br />If the prop and prop shaft is moving that much, DO NOT take it back on the water. Check the gear oil for metal frags or sparklers. If you find metal in the oil, some "thing" has gone south in the lower unit. Get it to a mech or if yer into it, check the gear housing yerself.

LIKE HE SAID CHECK THE NUT FOR TIGHTNESS OR IT COULD BE THE RUBBER HUB NEEDING TO BE REPLACED IN THE PROP
