1988 bayliner 230B engine and a 270sp outdrive
ok i took off the upper gear housing on the outdrive the ujoints seem tight i am going to replace them anyway. I checked the shaft coming out the bell housing and there is alot of play so i figured the barings in that shaft. I took off the six or 8 bolts off the clamping ring but can not get it off is this proper or is this the seal i have to pull the engine to get to.

Re: vibration when turning

You have to pull the engine. That ring you took the 6 bolts out of is what holds the engine in. When you remove the front mounts and lift the engine, that ring should pop out.
