I am looking to buy a radio for offshore use. Probably between San Pedro, CA and Catalina Island about 22 miles or so. Do you guys have any suggestions? The one I am looking at right now is a Cobra MR F75.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. That might be a bit more than I want to spend. What are some key features I should be looking for? I assume DSC is a must. Along with probably channel scan. Any other major feature the radio should have?

One more question. How do you match an antennae to the radio?

Re: VHF Radio Recommendations?

If the 504 is above your budget then look at the M304. The M304 has better performance specifications than the Cobra you asked a about.

eature wise, Send, Receive and class D DSC are the most important. Everything is just a bonus as far as I'm concerned. :D

Antenna wise, I can't put enough emphasis on the need of a good antenna. The antenna is the heart and soul of your VHF communications. Buy the best antenna you can afford then some.

The Shakespeare 5225-XT is the standard to which all others are held.
